I’ve heard it a million times…I went to Target for toothpaste and walked out of the store with a $150 on my credit card. I’m sure we’ve all been guilty of the trance one seems to fall into once inside the bright red and white store with so much good stuff!! I’m guilty of it too!! But the one place that can sucker me into a buying frenzy more than anywhere else is the Cream of the Cooking Crop, the Baker’s Mecca…Sur La Table.
Instead of your traditional Easter dinner tomorrow, we are taking our wonderful PizzaCraft Pizza Oven to my grandparents house for a pizza party!! And of course, I have to make the pizza dough from scratch. I want my family to enjoy their pizza, not feel like they are eating cardboard with toppings on top. And store bought pizza dough is just that…cardboard in a little round tube that scares the crap out of you when it pops open. I have an amazing recipe for pizza dough (and pizza sauce) and I’ll be sharing those recipes with you tomorrow. Stay tuned for that. One of the secrets to my pizza dough from heaven is a little extra flavoring that comes from, yep you guessed it, Sur La Table.
So off I went today to pick up a fresh jar of this little bit of magic. That’s all I needed. Well that and a new thermometer because mine is on the fritz. But still, we’re talking less than $25. As I walk in, I’m saying to myself, “only the magic and a thermometer” and I keep repeating it.
Right there in the front of the store is a big display of pizza stuff and I’m happy it’s right there so I won’t be tempted to venture further in. The pizza oven we already own, the flavoring I came in to purchase and a whole lot more is all right there!! A whole lot more of awesomeness. Before I could stop myself, my arms were full of pizza accessories and the nice lady in the store comes to help me and then says the dreaded words, “let me put those on the counter for you. And just to let you know, all of our KitchenAid Stand Mixer accessories are on sale.” Why nice sales lady just doing your job? Why?! Now I’m obligated to go have a look…
Off I go feeling somewhat guilty and somewhat excited. I love my KitchenAid Stand Mixer! I love the accessories! But they are so expensive, the only one I currently own is the pasta maker (which is fantastic by the way). I’ve dreamt about the ice cream maker, the spiralizer and the food processor for so long.
Weeeelllll….I’m now the proud owner of the spiralizer. It was 25% off, how could I possibly pass that up? Right? Right! And they did have the food processor and the ice cream maker so the way I see it, I should be patting myself on the back for having so much self restraint.
What turned out to be a quick trip for Pizza Dough Flavoring, which costs $12, and a thermometer which costs $10, ended up putting a $175 dent in my Visa card. But just look at all these goodies…
And remember the restraint? Don’t forget the restraint. I’m patting myself on the back.
Stay tuned tomorrow for our Easter pizza party and the recipes for amazing sauce and dough (with the flavor magic from Sur La Table of course)!
Wishing you all a very Happy Easter! Happy Cooking!
